The vote to leave or stay (split 50/50) introduces the central theme of the show: Is the money worth your soul? Most of the players return because the world outside this nightmare is, somehow, even worse.
The players are taken to the first game arena: a sterile, oversized outdoor field with a giant animatronic doll at one end. What strikes me most isn’t the violence — it’s how fast hope turns into horror. The show spends just enough time making you care about the players before putting them on that field.
