Gram-variable, spore-forming, resistant to all known antibiotics, and—according to the text—capable of lying dormant inside human macrophages for decades. It had been isolated in exactly three outbreaks: Moscow, 1979; Johannesburg, 1995; and a small town in Vermont, 2018. All cases were classified, all patient records sealed.
