Set against the twilight of the zamindari system in Bengal, Lootera tells the story of Pakhi (Sonakshi Sinha), the idealistic daughter of a declining aristocrat, and Varun (Ranveer Singh), an archaeologist who arrives in Manikpur to excavate a temple. Their poetic romance, filled with unspoken words and stolen glances, turns tragic when Varun betrays Pakhi, revealing himself to be a con man.
